Council moved against reclassification of the car park to ‘Operational’, and to suspend negotiations with the potential purchaser of the land. Details in link at left.

HWCV made further submission to GHD consultants, Nowra (GHD acting as independent Chair reporting to Council, as per the requirements of the Local Government Act) after the 2 September ‘09 public hearing.

Most of Council’s deliberations on the sale have been in closed session, the community thus excluded.  Only by a slip in a full Council meeting did the community discover the bargain basement sale price.

HWCV letter of concern to the NSW Minister for Planning,

The HWCV pointed out to the Minister that the community is being excluded from input about proposed  sale of Community classified land to a private developer, at below market value.

Mayor clarifies sale price of Owen St carpark  - SCR 30 November 2007

Mayor Watson said the land price was not the reported $900,000 but actually $400,000.  However he said the final negotiable price for the land and associated infrastructure “is estimated” at $3.6 million.
